Back to basics here. I churned out a brief summary on my weekly spending below.
Monday January 9, 2017:
$114.00 - Visa payment
$45.58 - London Drugs
I made a payment to Visa. This was to cover the cost of taking my car over on the ferry to the sunshine coast. If you've ever take a trip with your vehicle to the coast, you'll understand its impact on your wallet. It's disproportionate for what you're actually getting when you shell out $70 to take a B.C. Ferry. In the end, it was worth it but when I looked at my credit card statement it was slightly jolting.
I bought some snacks for work and myself from good ol' LD. My work pays for some of the food items we purchase for the office. I bought a $21 matcha green tea and thought that one should be my own responsibility. I wouldn't argue that this purchase was a mistake.
Tuesday January 10, 2017
$21.26 - Holt Renfrew
$20.25 - Cineplex
Tonight we are taking my mom to see La La Land. It's cheap day so I bought three tickets online to secure it. We went to the theatre an hour before it started to ensure we got seats. Still not convinced the waiting in the cold was worth our time or my fingertips, but we saw the movie in its entirety and enjoyed it, so that's saying something.
I bought a lipstick from Holt Renfrew using a gift card I got from my work. I had about $20.00 leftover on it, so the value of the lipstick can be deduced from that. It's gorgeous and by Charlotte Tilbury and I feel like a Bond Girl when I wear it. Not a necessity but I'm not ashamed.
Wednesday January 11, 2017
$286.50 - Visa bill payment
$95.04 - Costco run
$35.84 - Sephora
$2.99 - Loblaws grocery store
Contributed some more money to the Visa. This is me still paying off the coat I bought from Club Monaco. It's still beautiful, so that's okay.
We went to Costco today to grab some food items we were running out of. We got some olive oil, ground beef ($$$), nacho chips, eggs, and pine nuts ($$$). It was one of those runs where we had to restock some of our big ticket items. This was essentially ninety percent of our weekly food budget. I also went to Loblaws later on that evening to get living butter lettuce to eat with the hashwi we made.
Okay, so in the interest of being honest - this Sephora purchase was definitely triggered by a less than desirable moment. I was running late for my workout and I ended up missing it (that's $15 down the drain). I felt shitty about it so I went to the mall to buy a new face mask. I had just run out of my other mask so I felt it was justified. That would have been fine had I not bought the item whilst feeling upset. Purchases driven by emotion are never justified.
Thursday January 12, 2017
$18.66 - Fresh Street Market
$43.68 - Charlie and Lee
Went on another grocery store run to grab some items to make one of the most comforting meals in the history of EVER - avgolemono. If you are of the Greek uninitiated, I would suggest googling for the recipe. We bought apples, chicken, and tea on this particular trip.
I went and got some new printed socks from the Union Street boutique, Charlie and Lee. They are from Strathcona Stockings and I have a pair already that I never knew how to style. Now I know and am pretty excited to introduce them into the wardrobe.
Friday January 13, 2017
$331.00 - Visa payment
$11.50 - Cineplex
It appears I have reached my movie quota for the week. Two movies in one week! Lucky girl! Tonight George was visiting on the coast so I took myself out to see a late movie. I saw Hidden Figures - highly recommend.
Also, my coat has been paid off in full thanks to this final Visa payment.
Saturday January 14, 2017
$10.49 - London Drugs
I had a zit and it's not going well. I searched the house for Polysporin to ensure its healing but found none. I bought a new tube. [EDIT: found Polysporin in the medicine cabinet where it should be. I still have a horrible zit.]
Sunday January 15, 2017
$13.44 - Yokoyaya
I had the task of cleaning up my desk at work so no wires were dangling and making my space look ugly. It's probably something that could have been done during the work week but I needed George's help because he's handy with those things. We went to Yokoyaya for office supplies that I will be reimbursed for. I love my new desk space! So clean and tidy.
I have to say that this week's money diaries was not bad. George and I sat down yesterday evening to go over our budget; a meeting we're implementing more on the regular. One thing that has been a bit of money sucker for me is cancelling Classpass classes late. Each time I do it, I incur a $15 fee. It's something I'm going to try to be more aware of this next cycle. I also have the goal of attaining a new credit card with better rewards and following up with my dentist to make sure my latest visit has been paid off. These are the small things that amount to big things.
